First day in Taipei

  1. So far, I've visited Longshan Temple, and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. CKS hall is the big palace looking place with the big courtyard, garden, and white structures with the blue-green roof detail. People in Taiwain are generally friendly and helpful. Many speak a little or a lot of English. Friendly people in the subway system have stopped to ask me if I need help. The food seems somewhat limited. I see the same 4 dishes over again: steamed dumplings, soup, rice with sauced meat, bread. Not much in the way of vegetables. The city is dense and it's fun to walk around. The night market is especially fun, with food stalls all in the street. I've been eating all kinds of stuff and so far, I feel fine. I got some kind of heat rash on my calves, but it's going away. My bag of medicines is the same size as my bag of clothing. People stare at me everywhere I go, all day long. I've only seen about 3 white people in 2 days, 1 black girl, that's it.
